Drifts Residency

2024 — Till Bovermann

In 2024, friendly.organisms was invited by the 2024 Cultural Capital Salzkammergut to participate in the Water Sound Flows project. As friendly.organisms, we had the pleasure to conduct a residency in Gößl, a small village in the Salzkammergut region of Austria located directly next to the Grundlsee.

Over the course of ten days, we investigated both natural and technical sounds of Salzkammergut with regard to the region’s geological, biological and historical characteristics.  Focusing on the region around the three lakes Grundlsee, Toplitzsee, and Kammersee, we looked for drifts: passive, subliminal forms of locomotion taking place on diverse temporal scales, ranging from geological formation to contemporary transportation.

Our artistic research culminated in guided sound walks in which the interested public was invited for listening sessions and live performances of sonic drifts.
